the party was over
their room was dark
they laid together
neither wanting the other

she wanted someone else
he longed for another girl
they found a common bond.
desire.
for others not there.

he touched the small of her back
he pulled her to his chest
he drew back her hair
and kissed her neck

she slowly rolled
she kissed his neck
she kept her eyes closed
as she kissed his lips

he wanted her, she wanted him
but it wasn't the touch
it wasn't the caress
that either wanted

in that dark room
on two different paths
the two found each other
walking on the same

it started with a kiss
comfort, warmth, acceptance
found within the embrace
it was over with another kiss

he touched her cheek
as he pulled away
she lowered her eyes
as she turned away

there in the dark, she took his arm
she placed it around her waist
she covered his arm with hers
the two did not speak

an intermission to their lives
their two lives.
A silent moment
stolen away from time.

My Prediction

My Prediction of the "WTF?" of the month.
Lohan as Monroe?
I'm not bashing Lohan at all.
Just wanna know if she was NY Mags 1st choice or not.
I am a huge fan of the 50's and the 60's. Just everything about the times, from furniture to fashion, politics to cultural evolution. I hear about this "shoot", I check it out, and think "WTF?"
Out of all the chicks who might bear thier tits "they went with her?"" really?"" her, huh?"
and on a side note: "Whats w/ the wig?"

"V" Day

I wont get into that generic "Whats Valentines Day got to do with anything?" rant. Instead I will simply ask.
"In the world we live in where so much attention is put on the effects of personnal image and the debates of the equality of the sexes, Why do we still put so much emphaise on this "Holiday"?"
There is a 2nd question.
"Why does a loved one love you less on this day for not doing anything, in comparison to not loving you more on a day they do something?"
*ie. a gift on any random Thursday for no apparent reason*

Forever And A day

When i was young
friends and i would say
"Forever and a Day"
to express our love.
When my first love asked me,
"Will you love me forever?"
I smiled and said,
"and one day more."

But
Friends grow apart
,
First loves fade
And

Then running, and spinning, catching
one's breath

I wonder have I lost
That
"One Extra Day"

Beautiful to think I may
find it again

nothing too much to say

I wished dinosaurs would come back. I wonder if all the worlds problems would seem as important if a raptor might jump out from behind that tree over there. would I care if gas prices were $7 a gallon if a herd of triceratops might stampede during rush hour. would I ever hear another inane conversation over whose cell phone was cooler if a T-Rex decided to move into the field behind my neighbors house.
But of course this wont happen.
with any luck maybe aliens will invade.

James took another sip from his drink.

The room was not particularly bright, the only light came from the red glow of the neon sign outside. The mood within the room was not particularly bright either.
James had not planned for this eventuality, the plan had called for a quick cup of coffee perhaps a early dinner not a night spent with someone who should not have been here.
And not her at all
"Is there something wrong?" she asked him
A simple question asked, less simple to answer. in a simple question came a multitude of issues.
"Naw not really."
She was not a simple woman, nor was she not aware of the obvious events that might happen after the sun would rise in the morning. she moved herself to the tiny table and sat on one of the only two chairs in the room. james sat on the other that was next to the window. the room was small but the distance between them spanned much more than just a mere few feet.
or so James thought
James lit a cigarette, she passed him the ash tray. "Do you want me to leave?"
without answering her question James asked one of his own. "How long we've known eachother?"
"About four years now. why?"
"You being here is it because of our past together or is it because of your past with him?" James half expected her to be upset with his question, he did not expect her to laugh at it. she saw that her reaction had caught him by surprise.
"Oh, dont get me wrong. thats a fair enough question, but question sounds like it has more to do with you than with me. I had a whim to give you a call, low and beyold we're at the same place at the same time, you ask me for a cup of coffee and I said sure. Perhaps it wasnt the best timing, but still I choose to meet you. So we got together and we talked. Ok I mostly talked and you mostly listened. (she smiled a half crooked smile in an attempt to lighten the mood, James smiled back.)" she stood up and made her way over to James.
"I liked the fact that you listened and when you decided to comment or give your opinion I enjoyed it and liked it" Nicole sat on the windowsill, took James's cigarette from him, snuffed it out, and moved the ashtray to the table. " You flew into town lastnight for a card game, I just happen to be in town as well. take it as a sign, me calling you. Tomorrow we both fly back to our respective lives, seperate of each other." Nicole stood up, she combed her fingers through, James's hair "tonight is what it is, just that."
James was not exactly sure what she meant by everything she had said, but her voice, the strength in her body, thewarmth of her touch. whatever anxiety, fear, doubt, or other clich'ic emotions that are envovled with a night like tonight disappeared. he stood to meet her gaze, placed his arms around her waist and kissed her.

"James, you ok?" Leticia had moved from across the room to stand next to James and to join him in looking at the tattooed woman near the Black-Jack table.
"Yeah, I'm good just thinking about a Howard Jones song."

Latica turns to James with a confused glance, "Who is she?" James hesitates to answer he's looking into the casino below him, but she can see that he's looking into something else. "James I've known you for a long time now, and I've seen you in your bar, but I've never known you to fear anything."
the word fear snaps James back into the now, "It's not fear, well not the way you mean it."
"So who is she?" Latica returns her gaze to the tattooed woman. "She's someone from your past isn't she?"
James and Latica have known eachother for a number of years and during that time James has opened up to her. She is one of the few people that knows him to have had two separate pasts.
James turns away from the one way glass and walks towards the bar. Latica keeps looking at her. "Yes, but not from the darker one, Lets just say she was a darker part of the happier past."
with an out of character tone "Ok that was odd, as soon as you walked away from the window she turned back around to the table." Latica turns to face James she has a questioning expression on her face
"Yeah kind of un-nerving isn't it." there's a half hearted laugh in his remark. "She's...Well, we've always been that way."

I walk straight to the hotel lobby bar. There are a pair of bartenders behind the bar. I don't know the woman but I know the man, he greets me with a smile, "What can I get you?"
I have only ordered three or four drinks from him in just as many years, but its always been the same drink. Makes me appreciate Indie even more.
"I'll have a Captain and Coke please."
He smiles again and walks away. The bar itself is not very busy, yet it takes him five minutes to get back to me. Indie would be laughing by now. He places a tile coaster in front of me and as he places my drink upon it I reach in my back pocket for my wallet. I turn to see Laticia standing behind me.
"Roberto, this is a very good friend of mine, I'll be picking up all of his drinks tonight." She shoots him a smile and a look, his only response is a nod and a quick retreat to the other side of the bar. "You think I could get your bartender to come work for me?"
"Indie? Well she isn't My Bartender. She's just a woman that likes to hang out there and serve some drinks. You're more than welcome to ask her if you like." Laticia and I both know that we are just making a point of making small talk before she tells me why she asked me up.
"So why did you ask me to come on up?" Thank goodness neither of us deals with small talk.
"Now you see that's why I like you so much James, straight to the point. Well then follow me to the observation deck." Laticia turns and heads towards the casino.
She is wearing a back less black dress that starts at the neck and ends just above her ankles. Her hair is pulled back just enough to expose the back of her neck, and the slit in her dress is just high enough to expose her left calf as she leads me. She leads with such grace, and walks with self confidence, it wouldn't be hard to fallow this woman anywhere she wanted you to go.
As I follow her I cant help but smile to myself and remember a friend of mine from so many years gone. I never met her, but this is how I always envisioned her.
Strong, beautiful, and always in control.
Laticia leads me to a door behind the registration desk, and the up a single flight of stairs and down a hall way. She slows her pace as we come to a security door at the end of the hallway. She taps in the pass code on the number pad and motions me to follow as she opens the door.
I was rather surprised as to what I saw as I entered. I was expecting a wall of monitors, workers at keyboards, and the sound of security personal trying to keep an eye out for the bad guys. Instead what I saw was a very large lounge that over looked the casino. It was set up more like a studio flat than an observation deck. There was a kitchen on the far wall, a single door that I imagined lead to a bedroom, and the rest of the open space was filled with some small tables, a couple of couches, a few televisions, and a very elaborate stereo system. Leticia walks into the kitchen as I just stand near the door we entered from. "Welcome to my place James, make yourself at home."
I felt a little bit out of place.
"James would you like another drink?"
"No thanks I'm good." I looked down at my glass it was just ice. Perhaps I should have said yes.
I began to feel a lot out of place.
I decide to head over to the wall of windows to look down over the casino.
I don't look to her as she walks towards me, in the reflection of the glass I can see her extend her hand towards me. "I made you a drink anyways." There I stand one empty glass and one full. "So wondering why I asked you up?" I turn to look at her, but she isn't looking at me. She is looking into the casino, I pick up that she is focusing her attention to something particular on the casino floor. I look back to the floor, I try to guess her gaze and then I see what she is looking at.
Laticia takes a sip from her glass, "Do you know her?"
I cant see her face, but I know her. She's wearing a similar dress as Laticia. Her back is to me, but I know who she is. We once had a talk, many years ago about her decision to get that tattoo, I had never seen it before tonight, but I know its her.
Its an amazing piece of art on her back and she shows it well. Just above her waist and all the way to her shoulders and neck. She described it to me once but at the time it was just a painting her eldest soon had done. Its a mired of forms and the elements. I see she went with thick dark lines and deep shading. I can see the "village" from my vantage point, the lines are very clean and distinct. Very few woman can pull off a single back piece tattoo, but she has. As I continue to think about her I haven't noticed that she has turned towards me and is looking up at me. I take a step back.
"Don't worry she can't see you, this is one way glass."
Laticia doesn't understand.
